Global Entrepreneurship Monitor 2024-2025
AGP

Role: Collaborator

Financement: Ra&D

Description du projet : The GEM survey generates a variety of relevant primary information on different aspects of entrepreneurship and provides harmonized measures about individuals' attributes and their activities in different phases of venturing (from nascent to start-up, established business and discontinuation). GEM also tracks highly ambitious entrepreneurship (by identifying aspirations to grow among owner-managed businesses and the presence of entrepreneurial employee activity). All harmonized measures can be enriched with information on inclusiveness, using as lenses age, gender and income. The GEM survey also provides insights on the perception of whether the entrepreneurship ecosystem's components support or hinder entrepreneurial activity in the economy. Output: Rapport 2024-2025

Research team within HES-SO: Roniger-Widmer Corinne , Wild Pascal , Burkhard Danielle , Dougoud Maya , Gaudart Raphaël , Baldegger Rico , Meier Samuele , Simonet Gabriel , Zurkinden Lucia , Casagrande-Caille Laurence , Fritz Jürgen , Apalkova Viktoriia

Global Entrepreneurship Monitor 2024/25 Switzerland National Report :
Report ArODES
entrepreneurial trends, challenges, and innovations in a dynamic economy

2025,  Fribourg, Switzerland : HEG-FR (HES-SO),  42 p.

Summary:

Switzerland’s entrepreneurial landscape remains strong but faces challenges from global uncertainty, which has dampened perceptions of opportunity and entrepreneurial intent, with only 10% of adults planning to start a business. Entrepreneurs increasingly prioritize sustainability and social value, with 60% of women founders being mission-oriented compared to 45.9% of men—highlighting a gendered, purpose-driven shift. Export-oriented ventures are expanding, and digital adoption—particularly for sustainability goals—is growing, though AI integration remains limited. Persistent gender and education gaps continue to hinder broader entrepreneurial engagement. Nevertheless, Switzerland’s democratic stability and innovative capacity provide resilience amid evolving global challenges.

Summary:

Summary:

Entrepreneurs are increasingly integrating artificial intelligence (AI) with their business operations. The rapid obsolescence and development of AI tools implies that AI is not adopted as a one-time event. Rather, AI is pursued continuously by accumulating experience with usage of AI along with assessing potential beneficial versus detrimental impact, and with forecasting the role of AI in business operations in the future. Moreover, the pursuit may be enabled in a systemic context. This study aims at accounting for entrepreneurs’ pursuit of AI as usage, assessment and forecast coupled in the context of ecosystems. A measure of the digital entrepreneurship ecosystem in 35 countries is here combined with a survey of 20,178 randomly sampled entrepreneurs, reporting on engagement with AI. Hierarchical linear modeling reveals that extensive usage leads to favorable assessment, that usage and favorable assessment both lead to optimistic forecasting, and that these effects are enhanced by the development of digital entrepreneurship ecosystems. The findings contribute to an account of entrepreneurs’ pursuit of AI in digital entrepreneurship ecosystems around the world. These insights can guide policymakers in building ecosystems that promote AI-driven entrepreneurship.
