Emmanuelle Pireyre is a French writer who lives in Lyon and works in Geneva.
As a writer of fiction, Emmanuelle explores how the transformations of the contemporary world resonate in our private lives. Her books feature characters such as children involved in finance or foraging wildly for herbs, the ʻ30-year-old womanʼ as a concept, and even a man-dog created in a laboratory.
In her work as a writer, she alternates between solitary writing sessions—preferably by the sea—and periods in artistic residencies, during which she creates narrative performances featuring videos addressed to the audience. She has published a dozen books and regularly collaborates with other artists.
She holds an agrégation in philosophy and completed a PhD in research-creation on narrative performance (University of Paris 8), published under the title La performance narrative, Art, littérature, scène (Presses du réel, 2025). She was awarded the Prix Médicis for Féerie générale (2012) and the Franco-German Franz Hessel Prize for Chimère (2019).
Emmanuelle teaches creative writing, narrative performance and research-creation at HEAD-Geneva. In 2026, as part of HEAD Publishing’s ‘Manifestes’ series, she published Creative Writing Tips and Tidbits, co-authored with the writer Fabienne Radi.
