Summary:
TECHNICAL REPORT TO BP GERMANY (BP GELSENKIRCHEN GMBH)
Power production achieved with phase change and expansion in a turbine needs an appropriate fluid according to parameters like performance, safety, environment and technical feasibility. This report presents the constrains that leads to the selection of refrigerants for a set of low temperature (LT) Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) applications:
I- In a first part, the ORC system and a set of applications are described, the technology’s similarities with heat pumps are presented and major points of the design code EN378-2008, used for heat pumps, are exposed.
II- In a second part, a comparison between various available fluids is presented.
III- Finally, a first ORC design is carried out for BP application and a comparison of CO2 emissions have been made with other technologies for power production.
