Aydin Anbarani studied bioengineering at the University of California, San Diego, and bioprocess engineering at HAW Hamburg, before completing his PhD in Technical Chemistry at TU Wien, where his thesis developed knowledge-oriented methods for model-based monitoring and control of bioprocesses.
He then spent close to a decade at BASF, first as a process development engineer and later as Senior Global Technology Manager in the Nutrition & Health division. There he developed industrial enzyme production processes with bacterial and fungal hosts, scaling fermentations from the laboratory through pilot to commercial production, optimized the corresponding USP and DSP trains, and led machine learning projects for bioprocess monitoring and control. In 2021 he founded WisdomEngine GmbH, where he serves as Managing Director and develops a cloud-based platform for bioprocess data management and analytics, together with digital twins that combine mechanistic models with AI. He holds several patents on industrial fermentation processes. Aydin Anbarani joined HES-SO Valais-Wallis as Associate Professor in 2026, where he combines teaching with applied research and continues to build the bridge between industrial practice and academic research.
