Description du projet :
Digital activities are becoming a larger contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. Independent studies show that the necessary energy to sustain the current digital transformation will triple on average in the next 10 years. Although some scattered initiatives have emerged to reduce digital carbon footprint, companies are currently lacking software tools to measure their digital impact and take measures to reduce it. In this context, the goal of the project is to develop a cross-platform tool to measure, visualize and manage the energy footprint of companies' and public institutions' digital activities. The goal of the current proposal is to build a Proof-of-Concept to show the full potential of such a software. This first step will focus on the creation of a transparent, robust and verifiable Data Model to calculate the GHG emissions linked to daily digital activities (video streaming, internet search, e-mailing, etc.). The model will be based on LCA methods (Life cycle assessment) to consider the global impact beyond just the electricity usage of products. A prototype will be built to evaluate the data model and to be the basis for the development of a complete solution.
